In May 1998, Directors of The First Tee National Office, St. Augustine, Florida, visited the Buhl Park Golf Course and Driving Range. On June 21, 1999, we officially affiliated with The First Tee, one of the first eight chapters nationwide to sign on with this program, as The First Tee of Sharon. We are now in our 18th year of operation and have served well over 3000 children in the surrounding communities. Our teaching facility, completed in 2000, is a prototype for other chapter facilities of The First Tee, teaching life skills, core values and healthy habits through the game of golf, to children age 7-17.
Since the inception of The First Tee, it has steadily grown into a robust youth service organization, impacting, influencing and inspiring more than 10.5 million young people.
The First Tee of Sharon is under the umbrella of Buhl Park Corporation and operates from the Buhl Park Golf Course, a 9-hole walking course, as well as a practice area which includes a putting green and driving range. The unique feature of this course is that it provides The First Tee participants a free golf course, the only one in the United States.
Recently, The First Tee of Sharon has introduced the National School Program to elementary schools in our area, concentrating of the nine core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment, while presenting a golf-based physical education curriculum to the students.
The First Tee of Sharon is supported in part by Buhl Park Corporation, Buhl Farm Trust, fundraising events, grants and community donations.
